What this task is
In concept design, architects propose several overall layouts and massing options based on the site, program and budget, setting the basic direction of the project.
How AI replaces it
Around 2024, generative design tools began producing and scoring many layout options against constraints like density, daylight and unit mix, while image models sketch forms. By about 2033, first drafts for routine projects will mostly come from AI.
What stays human
Architects interpret what clients really want, choose among the many generated options and give the design its central idea. Landmark buildings and complex projects remain led by human creativity and judgment.
