Code-compliance checks
“Code-compliance checks” (Architect) is being replaced by AI: it entered in 2021 and is projected to be largely replaced by 2028.
What this task is
Architects check drawings item by item against fire, daylight, accessibility, zoning and density rules. The rules are numerous, and manual checking is tedious and easy to get wrong.
How AI replaces it
From 2021, AI drawing-review tools using BIM models and rule engines began automatically checking common clauses and flagging likely violations. As codes are digitized and permit offices adopt such tools, routine checks should be mostly automated by about 2028.
What stays human
Architects handle cases where code interpretation is disputed or needs expert review or special approval, double-check the issues AI flags, and remain legally responsible for signing off that the final design complies.
