Deep-learning handwriting recognition
What this task is
Reading handwritten applications, registration forms, medical slips or shipping labels and keying the contents into a system, often re-checking entries where the handwriting is messy.
How AI replaces it
From 2016, deep-learning handwriting recognition greatly improved accuracy on handwritten text and digits across different writing styles. By 2024 most handwritten forms could be recognized and entered automatically.
What stays human
Humans handle illegible entries and results the system marks as low-confidence, and they verify critical fields such as amounts, names and identity numbers before they are saved.
