What this task is
Handling documents the system can't read automatically, such as unusual layouts, mixed languages, handwritten notes or stamps covering text, which someone has to read and interpret.
How AI replaces it
From 2025, multimodal document understanding models that process images, layout and text together began handling non-standard documents that once needed human eyes. As they generalize better, most exceptions should be automated by 2030.
What stays human
People review high-risk documents and those the model is unsure about, and feed newly appearing document types back into the system so its coverage keeps improving.
