What this task is
Tutors help students with the homework problems they are stuck on, explaining the reasoning and each step, and finding and correcting misunderstandings of the underlying concepts.
How AI replaces it
Snap-a-photo apps recognize the problem, and large language models give step-by-step explanations and answer follow-up questions; this became widespread from 2021. By 2025 most homework help is available from AI on demand, without waiting for a tutor.
What stays human
Tutors focus on building good study methods, filling knowledge gaps and making sure students actually understand the material rather than simply copying answers from AI tools.
