“Draft imaging reports” (Radiologist / Pathologist) is being replaced by AI: it entered in 2023 and is projected to be largely replaced by 2029.
What this task is
After reading the images, radiologists write a report describing findings and giving an impression, using standard terms for each lesion's location, size and recommended next steps.
How AI replaces it
From 2023, multimodal medical LLMs began generating structured report drafts from images and detection results. By around 2029, drafts for routine studies are expected to come mainly from AI, with radiologists editing and signing.
What stays human
Radiologists correct the wording, add clinical meaning and sign off on each report, using the time saved for difficult cases and for discussions with referring doctors.
