Diagnosing complex cases
Radiologist / Pathologist · Radiologist
“Diagnosing complex cases” (Radiologist / Pathologist) is projected to see AI enter in 2030 and be largely replaced by 2038.
What this task is
For atypical presentations, multiple coexisting diseases or conflicting test results, radiologists combine imaging, the patient's history and lab findings to work out a differential diagnosis.
How AI replaces it
These diagnoses require pulling together a lot of clinical information, and someone must be accountable; training data for rare conditions is also thin. AI is expected to offer reliable differential suggestions from about 2030, but not to handle most such cases until around 2038.
What stays human
Radiologists continue to lead multidisciplinary case discussions and make the final diagnosis, using AI mainly as a reference tool for literature searches and differential options.
