What this task is
Elder-care workers make regular night rounds to check residents' sleep and breathing, and to catch falls, residents wandering out of bed, or other incidents as quickly as possible.
How AI replaces it
From 2020, millimeter-wave radar and AI monitoring began detecting falls, bed exits and abnormal breathing without cameras intruding on privacy, triggering alerts automatically. By around 2027, night checks are expected to be mainly handled by these systems.
What stays human
Care workers respond to alerts and deal with incidents on the spot; fewer night staff may be needed, but emergency help still has to come from people.
