Precision assembly
Production Line Worker · Assembler
“Precision assembly” (Production Line Worker) is being replaced by AI: it entered in 2020 and is projected to be largely replaced by 2030.
What this task is
On electronics and medical-device lines, workers align, insert, fasten or bond tiny components such as connectors and screws, work that demands steady hands, good eyesight and tight tolerances.
How AI replaces it
Industrial cameras and vision algorithms locate parts in real time, guiding robots through micron-level alignment, while force control makes screwing and pressing reliable. Adoption grew from 2020 in electronics, and most precision stations are expected to be automated around 2030.
What stays human
Workers shift to line changeovers, calibrating vision programs and analyzing defective units, while skilled hands still build difficult, low-volume or frequently changing products that robots are not yet set up for.
