Tiling
Construction Worker · Finishing Worker
“Tiling” (Construction Worker) is being replaced by AI: it entered in 2025 and is projected to be largely replaced by 2035.
What this task is
Tilers mark layout lines, mix mortar, lay floor and wall tiles, and keep joints even, surfaces level and rows aligned. It is one of the more skilled finishing trades.
How AI replaces it
Around 2025, tiling robots with laser positioning and automatic leveling began trials on large, regular floor areas. Because rooms vary and site conditions are messy, they are expected to cover most tiling work only by about 2035.
What stays human
Tilers handle cutting, edging and difficult areas such as bathrooms and stairs, while scheduling robot work, checking layouts and inspecting the finished surface. Over time the role moves toward on-site technical supervision.
