Bricklaying
Construction Worker · Structural Construction Worker
“Bricklaying” (Construction Worker) is being replaced by AI: it entered in 2021 and is projected to be largely replaced by 2034.
What this task is
Bricklayers spread mortar and lay bricks or blocks according to the drawings, keeping joints even and walls plumb as they build partitions and exterior walls.
How AI replaces it
Bricklaying robots use arms to apply mortar and pick and place bricks, with laser positioning for accuracy; some projects began trials in 2021. On-site logistics and openings for doors and windows still limit them, so most bricklaying is expected to be automated around 2034.
What stays human
Bricklayers handle openings, corners and irregular sections themselves, and they supply materials to the robots, adjust their settings and inspect the finished walls for quality.
