What this task is
Kitchen staff plate or box dishes according to each order, add cutlery and sauces, seal and label them, and hand them to servers or delivery riders.
How AI replaces it
Automated order lines portion food, seal containers, apply labels and send orders to pickup lockers, linked directly to ordering systems. Adoption grew with food delivery from 2020, and most standardized restaurants are expected to automate packing around 2028.
What stays human
Staff handle dishes that need careful plating, double-check orders with special requests or allergy notes, and fix missing or wrong items when the system gets things wrong during rush hours.
