Rewriting jokes, slang, allusions and cultural references in subtitles so the target audience gets the same meaning and humor, rather than a literal translation that falls flat.
How AI replaces it
From 2024, LLMs could spot cultural references and suggest several localized rewrites. Choosing a version that lands well without offending still takes deep knowledge of both cultures, so majority automation is expected around 2030.
