Template-based automated writing
What this task is
Writing quick news briefs from company earnings reports or game results, covering the key numbers such as revenue and profit changes, final scores and standout players.
How AI replaces it
From 2014, template-based automated writing systems read structured data and produced earnings flashes and match reports within seconds. By 2022 these data-driven briefs were largely machine-written.
What stays human
Reporters shifted to analysis and interpretation of what the numbers mean, and to designing, maintaining and checking the templates the automated system relies on.
