Cleaners sweep and mop floors in malls, offices, stations and airports using brooms, mops or ride-on scrubbers, keeping large public areas clean throughout the day.
How AI replaces it
Commercial sweeping and scrubbing robots plan routes, avoid pedestrians, ride elevators and recharge on their own; they spread through large venues from 2015. As prices fall and reliability rises, most routine floor cleaning is expected to be robotic around 2027.
What stays human
Cleaners handle corners, sudden spills and areas robots cannot reach, and look after the machines: emptying water tanks, changing brushes and clearing faults when they stop.
