“Menu development” (Chef / Cook) is being replaced by AI: it entered in 2025 and is projected to be largely replaced by 2034.
What this task is
Head chefs create new dishes, designing menus around seasonal ingredients, food cost and the tastes of their target customers, and testing and adjusting recipes repeatedly until they are right.
How AI replaces it
Generative AI can propose recipe combinations from ingredients, cost, nutrition and trends, and predict popularity; some restaurant groups began using it from 2025. Taste still has to be judged by people, so a model of AI-generated options with human tasting is expected to dominate around 2034.
What stays human
Chefs keep the final say on taste and creative direction, using AI as a source of ideas and a quick tool for costing and nutrition calculations.
