What this task is
Research analysts collect company filings, industry statistics, price histories and macro data, then clean and organize them into spreadsheets and model inputs that the rest of the analysis is built on.
How AI replaces it
Financial data terminals already supplied structured data, and from 2018 AI began pulling filings automatically, parsing financial tables and updating models. By 2024, routine data gathering was mostly handled by these tools.
What stays human
Analysts check that data definitions are consistent, dig into what lies behind outliers, and seek out alternative data and first-hand information that standard terminals do not provide.
